When I found out about you...

Today is Wednesday, August 7th, 2013. (I'm sure there is a date/time stamp when these blogs get posted, but whatevs...) On the night of August 6th, 2013, I was going about my normal routine for a weeknight...you know, dinner, homework, martini, shark week, TX Rangers baseball...I was doing all of that when I got to the end of my drink, getting ready to eat my olives. Now there is something important here: Before Mel (my wife and your mother) got home, I stuffed my olives with bleu cheese. Despite what anyone tells you, this is one of the best things on Earth. I spent about 15 minutes stuffing nine olives so I didn't have to do it later. (You'll learn that I strive for efficiency; There's a funny story about that...you should ask your mom someday.) ANYWAY...I got to the end of my drink only to find that one of the olives was smaller than the other and not stuffed...Though I didn't believe it, I thought to myself, "Did I miss one, and why is it smaller than the other two? Surely I would have noticed..." I turn to my left, where your mom was sitting and proclaim, "Look at this baby olive!" And what she said next would change my life forever..."Yup, it's a baby olive..." A bit disheveled, I looked back at the olives, then back at your mom and I knew something was up....(You'll also find out that I am very intuitive and know when something is up...so don't try to sneak out or anything fancy...) After she said it again, it clicked...You existed, and we were going to be parents. (The best parents, btw...) I couldn't have been happier. We had been trying to have a child for only a short period of time, but had been planning for this moment for over a year. (You'll ALSO find out that we plan for the future a lot...) (Sorry for all these parentheses) So I decided to start this blog to document these early months of your life. You'll see pictures of us, EARLY pictures of you and read what went on during this time. I hope to do a little something each day, that's my goal at least. So as mentioned above, here's a pic of your daddy, finding out that I was going to be a parent by your mom calling you an olive...I don't know if you're a boy or a girl, or if there's more than one of you...but I love you more than anything in the world.
